Safaris and Holidays

You’ve seen the videos, images and heard the incredible first-hand stories of encounters of wildlife in the bush. Although all this digital content at the touch of a fingertip is fantastic, none of it comes close to actually being there yourself; and its easier than you might think.

Getting to the Serengeti or the Masai Mara is simple and convenient from a whole host of international destinations.

Our experts with over 40+ years of combined experience of working in the safari industry are on the ground and ready to tailor-make a safari just for you. We can create your safari to just about any African destination using the components specific to your personal desires and needs.  We work with all camps and lodges in the path of the Great Wildebeest Migration so can customise a safari to suit your budget and style.

GMC mobile

We follow the herds

In line with our leave-no-trace philosophy, our mobile camp has been inspired and designed to replicate the early explorer-days of safari. Completely self-sufficient with the flexibility to relocate to any location, we have carefully considered everything you need and left out anything you don’t.

Our focus is on the experience of being in the bush and encountering wildlife, and we do the important stuff really well; reliable vehicles, first-class guiding with comprehensive knowledge of the terrain, geology, history, geography, environment and birds and wildlife, as well as remote and intimate camping spots, your everyday basic requirements, good coffee, tasty wholesome food cooked over an open fire all add up to truly unforgettable experiences.

In addition to your private tents there is a Bedouin-style stretch tent which provides shade from the African sun and if needs be, protection from the elements. Inside are tables for dining complete with camp chairs which can be moved around the camp fire for sundowners and fireside stories of an evening.

Our camp comprises of 8 rip-stop dome canvas tents complete with interior lighting, offering double or twin occupancy up to a maximum group of 16 clients. Each tent is 2.5m x 2.5m and 2.1m high and high enough to stand upright in. Each tent has high-quality durable bedding, mattresses and memory-foam pillows. Solar lantern lighting provided although having your own head light is recommended. (Stretchers/camp cot available on request.)

Supporting the camp throughout your safari is a rugged all-terrain, 4×4 off-road vehicle that transports everything you need during your time in the bush. Pulling a unique, custom designed and built trailer complete with 80L of solar-powered refrigeration and freezer space, mobile kitchen and gas hobs for cooking, we also have a camp oven to compliment the food we freshly prepare and cook for you on an open fire. The camp travels separately from the guests.

Our experienced in-camp staff take care of the cooking, day-to-day management, resupply and relocation of the camp so you are not required to do any camp chores allowing you to maximise your time in the bush on safari.

All meals are provided unless otherwise stated.

Early, pre-sunrise mornings begin with hot, freshly-brewed coffee and tea accompanied by fruit and cereal for a light snack. We encourage early rising to get out and about for the best sightings and light.  We prefer to stop mid-morning for a bush coffee breaks.

The itinerary always prepares for a full-day game drive whereby food will be prepared and packed for your day-long safari. Lunch comprises freshly baked bread, crackers, sandwich fillings, meat/chicken and a salad.  We sometimes return to camp and eat the same light lunch on site.

Dinners are the social meal of the day at our camp when everyone gathers around the fire to share stories and enjoy al-fresco eating under the stars. Main course for dinners usually comprises of a Starter (soup) followed by meat/chicken barbequed over an open fire, a starch or grain and vegetables or salad.  Special dietary requirements can be catered for on request if notified in advance.

Drinks

Like everything we do at Great Migration Camps, we like to keep things simple but do the basics right. We operate a cash bar serving cold drinks based on an honesty system. Simply mark off your beverages and we will tally your total at the end of the trip.

Red and white wine, Tanzanian bottled beer, rum, sodas, gin and tonic and whiskey are the staples of the GMC Bush Bar.

Drinking Water

In the interests of sustainability and in order to reduce the vast quantities of plastic bottle waste generated in Tanzania so we contribute to keeping Africa’s wilderness areas pristine and its wildlife safer, we do not routinely provide processed bottled water that you find in shops and supermarkets.

Bottled water is available at a premium, but, like many other environmentally-conscious and responsible camps across Africa, we provide safe, clean drinking water at camp. This has been filtered and treated and is safe to drink. We encourage guests to bring their own water bottles, which can be filled and refilled throughout your trip.

Great Migration Camps mobile travels with an ablution block, which has 2 shower cubicles for hot showers in the evenings. Gravity-fed they are the best hot showers in the bush!  We have a biochemical mountain toilet and a short drop in every camp for toileting. Each tent has its own wash basin & water jug. None of the tents are en-suite.
